Although some kinds of CO2 sequestration are " old arts " [as
with soft drinks] we do not know how to do it on the massive scale that will be
required, if coal is to become " the transition fuel " to a world free of
fossil fuels. For a pessimistic take by 13 MIT professors on the current prospects
for sequestration, go to >

Of course, we can always plant more trees, but that too will take a massive
effort.
This puts the onus on biomass and natural gas, as other renewables
do not have the same growth potential. Unfortunately production and reserves
of natural gas are even more concentrated than is the case for crude oil. And
for the next decade, many believe that the incremental source of LNG will be
Qatar, a small country in the Persian Gulf ! It looks more and more as if the
World is getting " between the sword point and the wall " !
