At the risk of entertaining an OT discussion, I'd like to point out a
chink in the armor of this video.
While the video is highly produced and many of those interviewed are
well known scientists and activists (i.e. Mr. Moore), they cleverly
distract the viewer, causing them to consider the more emotionally
charged, political effects of the movement.
True or not, they use words like "fear" and "intimidation" to describe
supporters of man-made climate change theories. They describe the effect
on developing countries like Africa. Even if this were true, these
things have more to do with an inappropriate response to climate change
than climate change itself. And let's not overlook the obvious attack on
the ethics of a very large number of scientists, accused of faking a
position on the climate change debate in order to get funding.
Where I come from, much of this could be described as "bait and switch"
tactics. You are pulled into a provocative debate and convinced to agree
with a position which is related, but after further examination, not
directly addressing the legitimacy of climate change itself.
In my opinion, we should always remember how climate change is directly
linked to energy usage and pollution. After all, a measurement of
greenhouse gases can also be an indicator of energy waste and increased
pollution. None of us would welcome the idea of neglecting or ignoring
that, and eventually becoming sick from our own filth.
Finally, which side of the debate would you prefer to be on if it turned
out to be wrong.
