[Gasification] Producer Gas Driven Engine w/ Liquid Fuel Assist

Michael,
I don't think the figure of 800 gallons is real.
With a conversion rate of 30 lbs sugar to I gallon ethanol, you would
require 24,000lbs of sugar from that acre of beet.
The sugar yield of beet can't be more than 15% by weight so you would need
60 ton per acre of good sugar beet.
Sounds a bit too optimistic to me, particularly as you would still have
growing, harvesting, sugar extraction and distilling costs out of that.
Any body have an accurate figure for ethanol yield?
Ken

Thanks Jeff.
I've always wondered how close to self sufficient a person could become
on a relatively small piece of land. Of course, I'm only talking about
fuel. Food is another challenge.
I'm told an acre of sugar beets can yield 800 gallons of ethanol.
Combine that with the biomass compatible with a producer gas generator
and I'd imagine one could go a long way.
...then again, I'm not sure I would want to process an acre of anything.
