That may not be the best idea.  "Let's do something about it" is 
often the cry of those who ignore the longer term consequences.

In the 1950's we were dumping sulfur compounds into the atmosphere by 
the ton.  It kept the global warming down.  Shall we do that again?

If we slaughtered every Chinese 
person/Russian/Republican/Democrat/Tory/Labour Party 
Member/liberal/conservative/Arab/Jew/Hispanic ad nauseum we would 
greatly reduce CO2 emissions.  Should we do that?

If we reduce the CO2 emissions and it results in nuclear winter 
(which was discussed a few decades back), are we better off?

Let's understand the tangle before we kill all the women so no more 
women can be raped, then find that the human race disappears.

My examples are quite extreme, but are there to show that not knowing 
consequences does not mean we won't be hurt by them.
