To ionize all of the gas to a point where anything would impact the metal 
contaminants would rquire an enormous amount of power. Basically, ionizing the 
gas would probably raise the metal content of the gas. If one merely drops the 
temperature, the metals condense out. Ionizing the tars would break them down 
but the amount of power wouldn't justify it.
