I have cut my average consumption drastically!!
1: No more traveling at all simply for the sake of taking a ride --
2: Getting a small motorcycle and rigging that to carry a 100 lb load
easily -- solving 80% or more of my "shopping" needs.
3: The diesel mule for heavy hauling -- very slow -- but 3 times or more
less fuel consumption.
4: Installing a Chinese "paddle-drive" 4 HP diesel outboard on my 3 ton
capacity work boat -- which now achieves 40 mpg diesel -- though at only 5
mph.
I use my car -- which has a special roof rack and can be loaded heavily --
about once per week.
Idling in 5th gear -- over drive -- at 28 mph -- I manage better than 45
miles to a single gallon of gasoline.
The end result is I am paying out less now for fuel costs that I was even
ten years ago -- when gasoline was less than half this present price.
