A simple way to use a fixed speed fan or blower as a variable speed
system is to simply allow some of the air being pushed by the fan to
escape. If you have a pipe inlet that you attach your blower too now,
just add a T in between the blower and inlit, then over the open end of
the T, put a sliding plate. You now can now infinitely adjust the
airflow to the gasifier, while leaving the fan running at an appropriate
speed to cool itself. You can also just put a restrictor plate on the
air in side of the blower (I use duct tape for quick trial runs) but
you may reduce the air movement enough to cause the motor to overheat.
