http://www.omega.com/pptst/CN800.html is about $142.00, they have 
cheaper and more expensive ones (LOTS more expensive ones.)  This is 
a good thermocouple controlled unit which should be quite 
reliable.  If you want a digital readout, the price goes up to about $220.00...

Of course if you can live with the smaller range, Omron has the 
<http://www.mouser.com/omronia>E5C2-R20K-32-1832F-AC120  which is 
about $130.00 available from Mouser.

All of these use type K thermocouples which will need a stainless 
tube to protect the element.
