ASTM Standards And EPA Stakeholder Meetings
by AER Staff on Friday 11 May 2007
The American Society for Testing and Materials' (ASTM) Low-Mass
Fireplace Task Group has finalized two ASTM Standards: E2515, the
laboratory protocol for measuring wood smoke emissions, and E2558,
its Fireplace Fueling Protocol.
Relating to the standards, the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association
HPBA will now work with the Environmental Protection Agency in
stakeholder meetings to create emission limits for "clean-burning
fireplaces." Initially a voluntary program, it will become the
equivalent of an EPA-certified product for regulators and green
building groups.
ASTM, formed in 1898 in the United States by a group of scientists
and engineers, has grown to become ASTM International, which supports
thousands of technical committees that draw their members from around
the world and collectively maintain more than 12,000 standards.
