[Gasification] Cellulosic Ethanol a dead end

I don't have time to footnote all the information that sticks in my
mind, so I'll just have to keep an eye open for the next estimate.
In any case, a relatively high fuel consumption for extraction and
processing [ whether it is 35% or 60% ] in the case of tar sands and
similar [ albeit lower ] numbers for old reservoirs which require
injection to maintain pressure, means that most numbers for production
and reserves in the petroleum industry are overstated, even if they
were honest, which many of them are not. Add increasing domestic
consumption in the producing countries, and what is available for
export is a lot less than what people think. So "peak oil" could come
sonner than we expect !
Cordially. ###

I don't think anyone has gotten it down that far. AFAIR, the
struggle has been to get more than one barrel out by burning two on
site. By the time you add in the high and still escalating costs of
extraction and processing, including what the workers use, it may be
a net loss. The companies may still be finding economies at the sand
face, but it is getting more expensive to support human beings in the
area per capita as the environment gets overwhelmed.
Best,
Bob Stuart
