[Gasification] Well Harmon, politicization of technology

Harmon:for me important question is to debate about state forestrys. Ed Burton in his www.edburtoncompany.com propose to clean up forests to prevent forest fires.This is very important because problem is exposed by some person like you linked and involved with forests administration. When society will discover many benefits from cleaning woods probably politics will change. This is only the beginning.

Having spent many years living in a National Forest, I'm quite
aware of what many of the locals thoughts are on these subjects, but
the bottom line is that they are such an insignificant number of votes
that it's irrelevant. And also, more and more people who do live in
the Nat'l Forests are opposed to logging. In Cook County, MN, where I
live, the year-around population is only 4-5 thousand, and it's a very
big county. Very little logging goes on there these days, and
Hedstroms, the local "big" sawmill (used to be biggest mill in MN) is
almost out of business. In fact I think most of their wood these days
comes from Wisconsin private forests.
But most importantly is the fact that the city people have the
votes, and very few are in favor of logging. And why should we log
the last remnants of our natural forests? Not for energy, that's for
sure -- it's a dumb idea when other things work a whole lot better.
