[Gasification] a proposed mobile gasifer concept

Frankly, I think it's a bit of a waste of time and effort. Much easier
to make ethanol, even on a small scale, and even easier to run the big
diesels on it. Two ways of doing it -- mix 1-2% of biodiesel with
straight ethanol and run it through the regular pump and injectors.
Or, use a kit that they were selling back in the '80s -- which injects
ethanol into the air intake downstream of the turbo. Both of these
presuppose a turbo with knock sensors controlling the wastegate. Not
much of problem with any truck doing commercial hauling today -- but
with an older diesel, with no turbo, you need to add an extra
headgasket to drop the CR to 18:1 or less.
Sorry -- gasifiers are great for stationary engines if you have
little else, but for commercial use, on the road -- it's going to be
either ethanol or CNG. And from what I've been reading lately, it will
probably be mostly ethanol.
