As long as we're at 'it'; how about those alleged PEER-REVIEWs which simply
reinforce political and other 'green' theology. Peer review groups may be
chosen for a common affinity to a core set of beliefs; not scientific
integrity or discipline.
Maine has a full blown college devoted to ecology in Bar Harbor at the
COLLEGE OF THE ATLANTIC. If you examine the faculty politics on what gets
solicited and what gets published/promoted, you find that the majority of
people making these decisions are non-scientists--musicians, artists,
political scientists, economists.
So when COA puts a stamp of approval on a report or study paper; it may have
a 'belief' component that exceeds it's scientific validity or omits any
contextual impingement on the findings.
Last night I went to a reception for a candidate for the Democratic Primary
to select the next Congressperson for the First district---Maine is a very
blue, often purple state so the winner of the primary is virtually assured
the seat.
I listened to several green artists and writers 'lobby' the candidate on
several initiatives.
I thought 'is this guy, fresh from a National Guard Engineer assignment in
IRAQ and helping rebuild that Country, going to read technical papers or
bend to the emotional pleas from these influential women?'
Once environmentalism crossed the threshold from being science-based to a
theological imperative, it put the ball into the hands of these people.
Taking it back means destroying their new found faith with scientific
reasoning. Ain't gonna happen folks!
