A colleague of mine was a scientist on that tanker that was escorted
thru the NW passage by ice breakers. He is an algae specialist who
was hired to study the effect of clearing a passage in the ice on the
communities of algae that form the base of the marine food chain on
the underside of the ice.
The images he showed us were of a supertanker in the ice, crews of
people walking around and divers with scuba going under the ice.
Impacts of ice cover destruction by ships passing through here is now
a mute point. What has happened this year to the ice cover in the
arctic sea is now '100 years ahead of schedule, having dropped 22 %
below the previous minimum low and it may completely disappear by
2013' This article comparing satellite views with IPCC predictions
was released September 8. Take a look at this yourself, this is real.

I really do not understand why it is necessary to debate in this
forum on carbon neutral technology what is accepted as a fact and a
threat to our lives as the technology on this forum mitigates for the
effects of CO2 pollution. Why then even bother with biomass and
instead use our plentiful coal resources for future energy?
For a collection of counter arguments to climate change deniers here
is a link to a collection of counter arguments by Coby Beck ' How to
talk to a climate skeptic < http://gristmill.grist.org/skeptics >
Tell me is the root of your argument all about your corporate and
personal income tax rate or is it the concern about climate change
mitigation slowing economic growth? This is a bit of a puzzle to me
and I would love to learn just why it is necessary to debate the
existence of the obvious on this forum, a forum that is oriented to
technology for mitigation of the effects of burning fossil fuels.
