[Gasification] Global Warming

Dear Tom,
The list has seemed to take a detour, lately. The rather unexpected division
of those who are gasifier proponents, at least partially because of the
potential of this energy technology to have a carbon-neutral (or even
negative carbon) impact on the ecosphere; versus those who are simply
interested in gasification technology-even if the fuel source in
"non-renewable"-has encouraged a digression into politico-economic arguments
and assaults on, or defenses of, the work of scientists who are assembled
on either side of the issue of man-amplified climate change.
Many of the charges and counter-charges have been vitriolic. So.., is global
climate change a viable topic (since widespread use of gasification and
accompanied carbon sequestration could, presumably, reduce the amount of
greenhouse gasses passed into in the atmosphere), or is this just a
digression from the focus of the List?
As owner/moderator of the List, you have the ability to set the tone. How
about a two-week free-for-all, where we can expunge ourselves of our
prejudices, paranoias, conspiracy beliefs, as well as our fact-driven
understandings of the cosmos; then, when all opinions are expressed; when
all arguments are made and rebutted; when the clock strikes 12, we can call
a truce and discuss gasification one more?
Best regard
Mark Ludlow
