That works.  I was worried that it would be a big bucks replacement 
(which is not very desirable.)

$356.00 for a fully assembled Megasquirt I SMD V3.  $430 for a 
MS-II.  See

one supplier (there are quite a few.)  You can save about $100, if my 
memory is good, by buying a full kit.

1.) That is higher end vehicles and later vehicles.

2.) even those have an upper limit in case the knock sensor fails.

Possibly, but the injectors are before the intake valves (as opposed 
to diesels where they are inside the combustion chamber) and should 
not need much IF the gas is cooled and detarred.
