Not in the US. Farmers in the US plant what Monsanto and the gov't
subsidy office, and their bankers, tell them to plant. And they are
heavily penalized if they try to do anything else.

You sure don't need much seed, every cattail head contains huge
amounts, and it also propagates from roots. But the main thing is you
only need to plant it once, and you're done. No more plowing, seeding,
cultivating, etc. No more herbicides (gee, wouldn't Monsanto hate that?)
or pesticides.

No special machines needed, forage harvesters will do just fine.
