Rolf; would you to tell me bore and stroke of Lanz?
regards, Benjamin

Hallo Bruce and all,
one of the main probs of the Lanz gas engines was the fouling inside the
crank case!
It required frequent "freeburns" with abundant petrol and delivered
enormous clouds of smoke on that occasion.
That´s why the gas sluice was invented. This is simply a tube slightly
bigger (30 %) than the crank/stroke volume connected to the crankase inlet
port with the diaprhagm valve removed and mounted at the end of that tube.
A T- piece connected the gas sluice directly to the inlet port of the
engine and the downgoing piston pressed the content of the sluice right
into the cylinder without fouling the crankcase.
This and the simple twostroke -hotbulb design helped to seemingly cope
with very low quality gas.
Due to the low CR of 6- 9 , this engine was never a good converter eff.
wise.
In dual fuel mode Lanz recommanded to inject 150 - 200 g/ l engine volume
and h unregarded of the actual power reqirements to help to ignite the low
grade gas and largely compensate for the typical power loss.
I have a drawing of this arrangement and also one of a Lanz engine with
inlet valves in the head from an old publication. Anyone want to see it ?
