Greg,
We are divided by a common language.
Diesel starts at 35 second viscosity, Kero is 28 sec. As you say longer
chain molecules in Diesel.
We don't refer to jet aviation fuel as Diesel. It is Kero.
Perhaps east of the pond only?
Ken

Kero, Diesel, and home furnace fuel are all about the same with the main
differences, being the amount of allowable waxes and sulfur.
Sure you will get a few more of the longer carbon chains as you move from
kero, to diesel 1, to diesel 2, and to diesel 4 ( which is also called
furnace oil, heating oil, and fuel oil ), but in a nut shell they are all in
the same fuel family and to some extent can be intermixed, depending on the
application. Kero is almost to "dry" so it doesn't provide the same level
of lubrication as the diesel for tight tolerance fuel pumps on diesel
engines - it's dry because it doesn't have the same level of waxes as diesel
has.
Think about it - that is one of the reasons why the US Army, specified a jet
turbine as the engine when the M1 Abrams was being designed - but actually
prefers to runs them on common diesel rather than more expensive jet fuel.
