[Gasification] This is a gasification list!

Dear Bill

I would suggest that oil prices, and the reasons behind them, are very
relevant to the Gasification List, in that a major factor in a decision
install a gasification is the alternative cost of oil or gasoline for
heat or power. Simply put, gasifiers will be much more common if oil
goes to $200/bbl, than if it drops to $50 per bbl.

If oil stayed at the same relative price as other costs (labor, wood
cost fuel , waste tipping fees, etc, ), then gasification facilities
would retain their present level of attractiveness. However, if oil
energy costs get "ahead of the pack", then it will be significantly more
advantageous to install gasifier systems.

The Policies of the US Government are having a big impact on oil prices.
That is not being critical, but rather, observational and
opportunistic.. What anyone can see is that there is a "situation" in
the Middle East such that oil prices are likely to go higher, and as a
consequence, there is likely to be a wider application for gasifiers.
However, dampening this opportunity is the possibility of a worldwide
economic slowdown that could ease demand for oil, and consequently, we
could expect a drop in oil price. This in turn would lessen the
attractiveness of gasifier systems.

If this thread degenerated into US bashing, then for sure, it is
off-topic and irrelevant to the Gasification List. However, if it simply
seeks to understand oil price dynamics in the context of how they will
impact on the economic attractiveness of gasifier installations, then I
would suggest it is a relevant discussion.

Best wishes,

Kevin
