Dear Friends,
I sympathise deeply have this problem from my many years as a covert missionary in Algeria during the Soviet era. I often stared down the barrel of a machine gun, once faced-down a soviet helicopter all alone and was brutally interrogated by the KGB. I also was with the UN in Baghdad up until the war started with the FAO and got arrested walking across a bridge one night. I often awaken the household screaming in my dreams, sometimes in Arabic, sometimes in French.
There's no easy answer for it and I know a lot of friends once covert missionaries and others in the CIA who are still in mental hospitals unable to communicate in any real way with anyone some eight I know who were captured by Muammar Khaddafi are still in hospital from the 1967-68 'difficulties'.
The issue of supplying lost cost reliable energy to the hinterlands of the world, I believe, is paramount in the fight for peace and against terroroism. A nearby consulting engineer I worked with has mastered the process of making 'snap-together' petroleum refineries that can be easily shipped in containers and assembled at remote sites easily. A simple 10,000 bbl a day unit we built in a remote part of Russia that had stranded oil revitalized the economy of the region by furnishing diesel and electricity.
When people are able to sustainably live in comfort they are less likely to form radical elements.
