Dear Doug:

Congratulations on your successful shakedown and wonderful explanation
at your website of the new 100 kW gasifier system in Chile. This level
of professionalism is where we should all be operating in 5 years when
Oil hits $20 bbl/gal. (See at http://www.fluidynenz.250x.com/)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was particularly interested in your use of Eucalyptus wood. A great,
fast growing, dense tree found around the world. (I also like the nuts
which burn beautifully in our stove and smell great and are full of
oil. Every time I visit my son in California I collect a bushel (few
kilos).)

We list (at http://www.woodgas.com/proximat.htm
the HHV of Eucalyptus as 19.42 kJ/g;  the Netherlands ECN lists 19.22;
Biobib of Austria lists 19.36 and 19.51 for chips. Remarkably close,
and typical for most wood. However, the density is higher than most
softwoods.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The views of the compact gasifier are great. I can't understand why
other modern 20 kW installations can be 10 times as big when this size
was commonly mounted on trucks beds during WWII.

And the views of the charcoal above the air introduction nozzles is
quite instructive on the heat flow UP our of the charcoal bed, something
that most of us don't understand.

I hope you soon make an installation in the US and can come see our new
labs.

Thanks again and keep the progress reports coming.

Your admirer,

TOM REED

This design has been previously tested to it's full output of just under 100kWe power generation on soft wood in a commercial installation, so the gasifier wasn't really being tested. What was tested is how the Eucalyptus hard wood behaved within the gas making parameters, and adjusted accordingly. It is anticipated that eucalyptus will be the principle fuel in the rural sectors, where it is widely grown.
