In interview to the periodical the Globo, of 23/09/2001, the professor of History Contemporary, of Rio de Janeiro Federal University, Daniel Aarão Reis, one of the 40 militant ones banished for Algeria, in exchange for the ambassador of Germany, affirmed: " The armed actions of the Brazilian left do not have to be mitificadas. Nor for a side nor for the other. I do not share of the legend of that in the end of years 60 and at the beginning of the 70 (also I) we were the armed arm of a democratic resistance. I find this a myth appeared during the campaign of the anisitia. Throughout the process of radicalization initiated in 1961, the project of the left organizations that defended the fight armed was revolutionary and ditatorial. It was intended to implant a revolutionary dictatorship. One alone document of these organizations does not exist where they presented themselves as instrument of the democratic resistance - “The radical left if had launched in the fight against
 the dictatorship, not because people wanted a democracy, but to restore the socialism in the Country, by means of a revolutionary dictatorship, as it existed in China and Cuba. But, evidently, they spoke in resistance, much more likeable, mobilizadora, agglutinant word. This is a teaching that comes of the classics on the war”.
