Benjamin,

 

Please don’t encourage people to build high pressure boilers, particularly
with welds as shown in your photo. At 374C, steam is at the critical state
where vapor and liquid are indistinguishable. Higher temperatures, such as
the 450C you mention are supercritical states, not merely superheated. 374C
is equivalent to 3206 psia (221 bar). Metallurgy, safety systems, water
chemistry, controls—all are critical and not the kind of stuff built in a
barn.

 

If you build this, you may want to notify your neighbors to back-off for a
km or two for the maiden voyage! Plus, I’d like to say that it’s been
interesting knowing you.

Mark, with this layout must be using semiespherical caps at tanks tips. 
With proper choice of wall tubes thichkness you are applying this
700 psi pressure over low diameter tubes.
All weldings are simple to make and control by hydraulic test.

This photo shows an water tube boiler . 
Easy to build it can work at
700 pounds pressure and 450 C degrees.
This way is possible to recover high amount of heat with efficiency.
For steam blast hydrolisis this pressures makes feasible at low cost many
processes.
Enzymes, fungus and many others ways to split lignine from cellulose are
expensive and is not possible to reach by independent producers.
I´m searching some vessel to make steam blast for hydrolisis.
