I used to have a good laugh on the way to work in Toronto from time
to time. I'd pull up at the curb for a red light, beside a line of
shivering statues waiting for a bus in their fashionable clothes. I
was such an anomaly that occasionally, one would break the Toronto
Code of Silence with Strangers and blurt out "Arn't you Cold?!?" I'd
happily unzip and flap my jacket to show how close I was to
overheating. For me, summer is always the worst cycling season, as
I drip for twenty minutes after arriving anywhere in a hurry. In
winter, the only special clothing you might want is good mitts and
boots, and a dust mask for rebreathing heat when it gets far below
freezing. When it is icy, I can put a foot down and slide along
without falling.
Best,
Bob Stuart
