Sam,
You can find an abstract and link to the Mukunda patent at:
http://gasifiers.bioenergylists.org/node/895
Examples of the IISc and open core gasifiers can be found at:
http://gasifiers.bioenergylists.org/taxonomy/term/261
We seem to have lost the link to the Das patent: Charles W. Aguadas Ellis,
6647903, Nov 18, 2003 "Method and Apparatus for Generating Combustible gas".
It has very good explanation of the downdraft designs.

You'll find references to the open core designs in many list messages:

Subject: [Gasification] Mukunda gasifier diagram?
hi all following advice from this list I have been investigating Mukunda
open top gasifiers. I plan to build one and have even started sourcing
parts.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience of them.
This is the most accurate diagram I have found. I am planning to build the
one on the left.

I am wondering what would be the correct internal diameter of the air input
pipe?
I was also wondering if anyone knew of any UK equivalent to these large
metal plumbing fixtures which are used in the US?

Thanks
