I spent the afternoon re-soldering some of the flat plates to the tubes, and painting the things with good ol' barbeque paint from the hardware store.  One of the collectors is really trashed, I dont think I can fix it.  ANother had a freeeze burst which I fixed, and I'll pressure test it after I get another adapter fitting for my gauge.  
 
Another guy, offlist, told me that "free stuff isn't really free if it is a maintenance headache" and I'm beginning to wonder about this bunch of stuff.  He also recommended I re-visit capacity issues to see how much I expect to get out of these.  Oh well I spent a pleasant afternoon tinkering, can't think of anything more fun, and I've spent more money on a fishing trip where I caught no fish, so I don't feel I've lost anything.  
 
As for glycol vs. Drainback, I'm set on going with glycol and a hacked heat exchanger after thinking it through.  Both systems have plusses and minusses, but the drainback won't work well with the El-Sid PV pump, so that would send me back to the drawing board.

It strikes me that one disadvantage to the glycol system is that you 
have that much more cold mass (the fluid in the collector) which needs 
to be heated by the sun in the morning. Then there is the need for a 
heat exchanger...
