[Greenbuilding] Solar Water Heater architecture

    Years ago I used a 1000 gallon concrete septic tank (stone filled) 
as a heat storage unit.
    The tank was cheaper than the  plywood box we where originally 
planning, and gave us
    more than a ton of mass into the  bargain. Should be easy to 
waterproof. They come in
    two parts, but would still be difficult to get down the basement 
stairs....
