Hi Chris,

The GenX stuff is interesting, though I can't really see enough details
on their site to evaluate it.

Yes, the EIFS have had a lot of problems, as far as I can see
particularly around residential projects. There was a big legal
settlement in 2000, I know. It may be that ti doesn't lend itself to the
complexities of residential construction. As per your comment on
detailing being important with any building system, it's truer for some
than for others. I think strawbale is particularly
susceptible/unforgiving here, and EIFS is too. Sadly, it can be quite
painful to try to call out all the minor detailing on plans, so we end
up relying on builders to do it right, which they may or may not
understand, never mind have the patience for. Even Building Sciences,
which has great cross sections and exceedingly useful moisture/air
barrier info, doesn't go into the painful detailing around windows,
inside corners, and all the bazillion little places that go wrong in a
house. Oh well, I haven't figured out anything to do here, I figure
putting together a library of as many of those detail sketches as
possible is probably the best long term strategy (not that builders
always follow the plans, but at least you can give them a chance!).

later,

Keith
