[Greenbuilding] on demand hot water heaters

Hello Everyone,

I'm wondering if there is such thing in North America as a location  
specific on demand hot water heater. I saw them in Australia and  
other (220V) countries where there was a little heater canister under  
the bathroom sink to supply hot water to the shower and sink. Same in  
the kitchen. Brilliant idea actually, since they were significantly  
smaller than what we all know and see around these parts. The added  
advantage is that you only have to run one line, cold, throughout the  
house.

I suspect the 220 issue is the stopper as to why I haven't seen it,  
but maybe I'm not looking in the right spots.
