[Greenbuilding] on demand hot water heaters

Yes, they do indeed exist. And, yes they do require 220/240 voltage 
and high amperage service. I don't think I've seen any 110V units.

I may be using some in a current job (because it's a loft renovation 
and I may not be able to locate the units close enough to 
ventilation). We'll have to bring up new electrical service from the 
basement of the building to feed them, but we were doing that anyway 
so it's an incremental cost increase to bring up a larger service.

Some of the manufacturers that I've found so far include  Eemax, 
Steibel-Eltron, Tankless, SETS,  Powerstar, Niagara. An online search 
will turn up more.

Anyone have experience with them? Or know of gas units that can vent 
further than typical? (I'd need 40+ feet with a few elbows.)
