Our biggest local salvage metal place was paying $2CAD and up per pound
for bare copper this summer. It would be at least a half dollar more at
the coast. (we're 230 miles inland.) If a scrap yard in the B.C.
interior is paying prices like this, the Chinese (and consequently other
buyers) must be paying double that to have the material delivered. The
price of copper on London metal market is bouncing between $3.04 and
$3.05 (US) per pound.today. Shipping not included...
It hasn't been many years since it was under $1.00/ lb.

The Chilean copper smelter workers went on strike today and the world
price of copper rose 1%. Negotiations over wages were very quickly
resumed...not surprising at the current price of the metal.

The spot price of raw copper is supposed to drop a bit next year as
production will increase a bit, but I suspect it won't drop all that
much. Maybe just level off in the $2.50-$2.75 US range.

Consequently, the prices for wire will remain quite high.

Cheers,

Chris Green.
