You don't think the rising interest rate is the culprit?



Nah, I was just talking to a bank pres, and he said they have only raised
home mortgage rates about 1/2%, although the cost of the money they have to
borrow at is up. So their margins are tighter, too. I think that much of the
slowdown is due to the large inventory that got built up, and that was
because anybody could make money by building houses when the market was
booming, so some investors bought several houses. People were buying houses
because they had to before the prices went up even higher. Now there is a
big inventory in many places, and people are waiting for prices to fall
lower before they buy.

Electrical wire was up 280% over the last year, last time I checked.
For a while this summer, asphalt roofing was zooming up at 8% per month.
Finally, I believe, these prices finally killed off the housing boom.
