Also, a typical (non-cogen) gas-fired thermal electric generating facility
has an efficiency of ~30%.  Gas water heaters have efficiencies of 60% -
85%. Much better use of gas resources to heat the water by the end user. If
anything tankless water heaters, gas or electric, would reduce the demand
loads on gas and electric distribution systems.
