All I know is this.. When you drive through a neighborhood on a cold winter
morning, the vinyl-sided frame houses have vertical stripes in the frost.
You can see every stud.  The only explanation I know for this is that the
warm studs are melting the frost - which sounds like heat loss to me.

 
Yes, of course--my point is that vinyl sided building probably was insulated
by piece workers, with gaps between the batts and the studs that you could
stick your hand through with out touching either--I've seen it too much!
The point I was trying to make was that what is perceived as bridging may be
due in large part to infiltration. 

By contrast we've insulated directly under roof decks with icynene, and did
not detect a strong linear pattern with snow melt.
