Don't hurt yourself punching holes in the wall.
Drilling might be less risky.
Drilling from the inside is great, no worries about adding water leaks, 
but dusty if you are living there.
When you strip the siding, add your Larson trusses, add more insulation 
(cellulose) and leave what you did originally unless it is in the way of 
other work (electrical, plumbing).
Don't forget your ceiling if it isn't already insulated, I always air 
seal the attic first (after if there is insulation).
If you must remove it there are insulation vacuum, you can bag it, and 
reuse it in your Larson truss.
I have uses a shop vac with plastic bags, but very slow.
Do you really enjoy cutting firewood?
