Hi Jill,
Hmmm, just how long have you been following this thread? Ok, I guess I'm
thinking of a different thread back in May, Icynene vs. Cellulose
Insulation.
Lots has been said about the advantages, and disadvantages of Icynene
and other polyurethanes. It's an expensive, not recycled, petrochemical
with high flame spread. But it's tight (functions as an air-barrier and
therefor a condensing-surface-temperature-controller), doesn't appear to
promote mold or other problems readily, can be used in many situations
where almost nothing else could work well. I like it more all the time.
But I like cellulose MORE all the time.
But cellulose is perhaps more dependent on installation, perhaps it's
even more of an artisanal product. And it's low price translates into
sloppy installs all too often. Good installs can be fairly labor
intensive (depending on the situation), and that can be hard in some
areas at some times (the old "finding good help" thing).
