Montgomery County, MD PS (which is building all future schools to minimum
LEED Cert if not LEED Silver) held a green modular design challenge last
Spring. While it was meant to deal with our own local needs, they opened it
up internationally so other districts can learn from it. The winning firm
was from Ontario. And they held a symposium in Wash, DC on the topic.

Outside of that, there are certainly ways to build a green modular if you
take the time to plan and implement with care.

Subject: [Greenbuilding] healthy modular classrooms and alternatives
Our Waldorf school plans on purchasing two modular classrooms for its
kindergartens. Parents are opposed due to the known detrimental effects of
modulars on the health and wellbeing of its inhabitants. Is it possible to
create a healthy modular? And if so, how do we go about it? Our primary
concern is the health of the children and the teachers who will be in them
all day.
Also, are there any other healthy alternatives to modulars that would also
be approved by our Los Angeles County building and safety department for use
as school classrooms?
Thank you so much and I look forward to your responses.
