So far I have looked into the idea of applying for $500 credit on a metal roof, and failing that, cellulose insulation. The Cellulose was made by a local company, likely not able to certify anything, and the roofing was made by Firestone Unaclad, but formed by a small-time local outfit, that also isn't able to certify anything. Firestone lists nothing about this program on their website, although they say that this metal qualifies for energy star rating. Here is a similar letter from Ryerson, if you are trying to get someone to certify a material send this as an example.

If that doesn't work, I'll try for HVAC.
If you apply for the tax credit without the certification letter, The IRS will never know unless you are audited. As long as you have receipts you are probably OK.
If you are going to investigate this, don't wait till tax time.

Hi Lawrence,
I am planning to file for these credits so I'll be very interested to hear
your story. Please let me know how you make out if you decide to not post
to the list.
Thank you so much,
Irina
