I have also had trouble with that and do not have a solution but I can say I
watched a crew do it on a commercial building about 8 years ago and they
were very successful. No fibers though and LOTS of cracks today.

I've done it. Its not as easy as it looks. The expanded metalmesh has scoops
that point in one direction. It generally works slightly better if youpush
into the scoop shape. Just the right consistency is important. Don't
overwork the mud. Get it in quick, and get away from it. The first coats job
is just to get enough mud stuck to the mesh that it quits bouncing around.
Never tried it with surface-bonding cement. I would use the same mud that
the stucco crews always use. Let it crack if wants to. Then when its done
cracking, (usually a few days to a week) you can put the color coat over it
and bridge over all the cracks.

Good luck with the weather.
Bruce
