Last February I had an experience with the Canadian tire money in Mexico -
You can read about it here AND see photos - it is a funny story:

What's Canadian Tire Money?

A commercial 'scrip' or privately issued currency.
When you buy stuff at Canadian Tire stores, they give you a small %age
rebate in the form of paper money-like coupons, or the equivalent
credits on store-issued credit cards. This "money" can be spent at CT
stores, or donated to certain charities. They are printed in
denominations from 5 cents up to $1 by a legitimate banknote printer and
feel like other currencies.

It's a loyalty program a bit like "air miles," but you can give a stack
of the bills to someone else if you choose, or even take them in trade
for something when bartering.

Wouldn't you know it: there's a Wiki article about this.
