I did some research on this a few years back, and you can easily
find the old discussions on various lists by searching on "Speireag"
and "Legionella". These temps I culled, if I recall correctly, from
an Australian guideline for correct treatment of hot water in
hospitals.

I have put centigrade first, and left in the Fahrenheit for those
among us who have been traumatized by US perversity.

Below 20°C (68°F), Legionellae can survive but are dormant. Cold
water in storage tanks, piping, decorative fountains, and other
equipment should ideally be kept below 20°C.

Ideal growth range 35°-46°C (95°-115°F).

Legionellae growth range 20°-50°C (68°-122°F).

Above 50°C (122°F) Legionellae can survive but do not multiply.

55°C (131°F) Legionellae die within 5-6 hours.

60°C (140°F) Legionellae die within 32 minutes.

66° (151°F) Legionellae die within 2 minutes.

Rapid kill range 70°-80° (158-176°F)
