Lorraine,

  There is a new book out called  “Ecological Design and Building Schools: A New Guidebook” by Sandra Leibowitz Earley that surveys most of the green building schools in the US, Canada and Mexico.

  Also, Habitat for Humanity has a green team that provides information on green building techniques to affiliates. Contact the Environmental Construction and Design Department at HFHI.

  I'm sure there's someone on this listserve looking for apprentices. Perhaps you should send an annoucement with your skills and what you hope to learn so they can see if there is a match.

Lorraine,

Concerning working in the so called Green building industry, just like every 
other trade or profession in the US unless you have a degree, certification 
or license you are just going to get exploited, paid poorly and used by 
those who do. Architects, builders and contractors are some of the worse 
for this behavior. And it is one of the dirty little secrets they try to 
keep to themselves. I recommend you obtain your electrician's license. Of 
all the trades it tends to be the least abusive to its workers and the union 
(IBEW) does try to take care of its members..
