Loved the link to the Web Energy Logger. It just warms my heart to know that there are people out there who will pull something like that together, and then release it out into the world for the rest of us to play with.
WEL is aimed at measuring and posting temperature and event data. Does anyone know of a similar do-it-yourself type setup to control and operate building functions?
Those of us with multiple devices for heat and cooling, zoned HVAC, and especially with larger solar thermal systems, could really use a central control based system. I'd even settle for a commercial version if need be! Web interface is a concept that I hadn't considered before, but now that I've seen WEL it makes lots of sense.
I've been considering hacking together a Basic Stamp controller for my own house, where I'd like to be able to stage heating, to forgo comfort features like warm floors on the third cloudy day even when the solar tank is pretty warm, or push heat into reserve C if it's 1:00 on a winter day and reserve A and B are warm, but continue to heat B if it's already 3:00, etc., and then be able to change all the settings later. Seems to me that requires computer controls.
Any thoughts from the pros on the list?
