[Greenbuilding] LEED test

The best practice test is published by the USGBC Colorado chapter, for
about $30.

Info for ordering can be found here:

http://chapters.usgbc.org/colorado/leed.html

I collected a number of sample exam questions from some internet forums
including this one. I'll send you some as attachments offlist, Jason,
and anyone else who needs a copy of the free ones can email me and I'll
send you something privately. Keep the traffic off the list if you
will.

Here are my tips for the LEED exam:

1. Memorize the prerequisites
2. Where there are two different sub-categories of a LEED credit that
differ by a percentage, memorize the percentage breakpoints
3. Memorize all of the ASHRAE document titles referenced in LEED (There
are just a handfull of them) such as ASHRAE 90.1 is the energy code,
etc.
4. Gain access to the members only area of the USGBC website if you can
and look at a LEED letter template, look at the details of the LEED
application process
5. You have ten minutes at the beginning of the exam to take a
"tutorial" on the computer exam process. The tutorial will take you 45
seconds. Spend the other 9 minutes and 15 seconds dumping all of the
information you reviewed in the 30 minutes before the test onto a piece
of paper.
6. Use the free practice exams until you can pass them all with more
than a 55% score. Then take the USGBC colorado chapter practice exam,
which is the hardest. Once you have taken this practice exam, review
all the LEED credits pertaining to the questions you missed.
7. There are several questions on the USGBC colorado chapter practice
exam that either have wrong answers in the answer key, or they say pick
three right answers and there are four right answers in the list. When
you find these, pay particular attention to that chapter and determine
why the test designer thought one right answer was more right than
another right answer.

Good luck!

Lawrence,

Did you find the practice tests online? If so, can you pass on the URL?

I am taking the LEED test on Saturday, everybody wish me luck! Any
suggestions for last minute cramming?

Here are the resources I have found so far:

Sample test from the USGBC colorado chapter
Links to several sample tests located in archives of this forum
LEED-NC guide from USGBC

So far I can pass all the sample tests. However if the sample test from
the
USGBC Colorado chapter is any indication, the test questions are worded
and
arranged in such a way as to be difficult. Often they will have 7
multiple
choice answers, you have to choose three, and there are four answers
designed to "look" pretty good. One of them is a trick! Or all of the
answers are the right answer to SOME question about LEED, maybe with a
slightly different shading, only three are the right answers to THIS
question. If you don't have the differences between all of the LEED
credits down cold, you won't do well. Some groups of LEED credits,
such as
the Materials and Resources or the Low Emitting Materials credits, all
sound
alike.

Well, gotta go cram...
