These funeral rites are practiced by the Parsi, a people who follow the 
Zoroastrian religion, and the dead are placed in the Towers Of Silence.

The Parsi Zoroastrians use the Towers Of Silence because they believe 
the human body is polluted, and as fire worshipers, they believe that 
cremating the bodies in funeral pyres will pollute the sacred elements, 
especially fire.

After reading the post about the toxic chemicals created by 
incineration, one can easily believe these folks are right....
