The citrus based strippers are greener, but they still have toxic fumes.
I was using some citrus based solvents one time and got woozy from them.
The real stuff, Methylene Chloride, is no longer sold in stores AFAIK
bacause of VOC's and Ozone depletion potential. That stuff would take
the hide off a bear.
No matter what you do, invest in a good mask - you are likely dealing
with Lead whether you are scraping, gooping, or burning (not
recommended).

Have you tried just using the scraper by itself? Sometimes old paint
comes off rather quickly with one of these, especially the long-handled
'wood scraper' kind you can get at a paint supply store (as opposed to a
cabinet scraper... ) You can put a lot of elbow grease to work with one
of these, and EG doesn't cost much.
This would be preferable to using a torch, since that will probably
create fumes that can be breathed in, etc.
The citrus-solvent based paint remover 'goop' and scraper would be my
next choice, but might require multiple applications. At least this
stuff also prevents fumes escaping, and the scraped off stuff can be
gathered/ vacuumed up and disposed of more safely.
Cheers,
Chris Green.
