[Greenbuilding] Spacers for glass block and a roof question

Hello everyone,

We are installing a glass block wall on one side of the bath/shower
enclosure. Glass block is typically installed using spacers that are (what
else?) made with PVC plastic. The mason said that he can't warranty his
work if we do not allow him to use the spacers. Has anyone had any
experience in installing the glass block without spacers in this type of
application?

We are using Enviroshake for the new roof and insulating in the rafters
with a soy-based urethane spray foam. The insulation contractor tells me
that we should get rid of our ridge and sofit vents and use a "hot roof"
method. The roofer said that it will be beneficial to vent regardless of
the insulation. Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated.

Peace,
