     I wonder if the parts are also available in ABS...  I've resolved 
not to add any more PVC to the system.

     Is what you're describing something that would be within a 
pressurized system, or something which would be like a flapper valve 
from a toilet?  I have to push the water up over a hump to get to the 
pond, so I'm trying to do it within the pressurized pipe.  I could 
probably do it above the level needed to get over the hump, but it 
would be pretty inconvenient.
