[Greenbuilding] need help with sorting out grants

Sometimes you just can't avoid it, especially with open floor plans and 
slab on grade.  We have a double studwall (10.5" wall) and the plumbing 
is in the interior 1/3 of the wall.  Even at -30C the water in the pipe 
didn't get any cooler than any of the pipes running inside the house.

If you are building with standard 2x6 construction, you would probably 
have to put the plumbing in an interior bulkhead.
